Format
A3
has been defined in the international standard ISO 216. The Polish standard of paper sheets PN-EN ISO 216:2009 is in accordance with the
international standard ISO 216. A3 format is the second most popular format of its kind after the A4 .
In paper format A, the ratio of the shorter side to the longer side is always like 1 to √2 (i.e. like the side of a square to its diagonal), albeit rounded to full Millimeters . Such a ratio of the length of the sides results in the fact that after folding the sheet in half with the shorter sides to each other, two sheets are obtained, with the same proportion of sides as the original sheet. The sizes of the A0 format are selected so that its area is 1 m². Subsequent formats in this series are created by dividing sheets halfway down their long side. Hence, the format A1 is half of A0, A2 is half of A1, etc., but always rounded to the nearest millimeter.

Format A3
The A3 format is the second most popular paper format in the world after A4. It is one of the predefined editing formats of all office suites such as Libre Office, OpenOffice or MS Office. These packages also allow you to print A3 to PDF. To print in A3 format, you need to purchase a dedicated device, as most printers print in A4 format. Scanners and scanning devices must also be dedicated to A3 scanning. In the case of photocopiers, most devices support scanning and printing in both A3 and A4 formats.
A3 dimensions are most often used to make presentation printouts such as printing charts, tables for project documentation, technical drawings containing larger elements or requiring more details. Also in the case of printing maps with a larger area of geodetic studies in the scales of 1:500, 1:1000 or 1:2000, the printout on A3 is used.
The A3 format is further developed into the following formats: A3+ and A3++ enabling printing on printers that support the A3 format of sheets of paper longer than the standard length defined for A3 printing. These are sheets of paper with a height of 297 mm and a length of more than 420 mm. The use of such sheets makes it possible to print linear elements, such as road maps, using fewer A3 sheets and convenient use them to complete documentation in the A4 standard by the so-called folding.
