The A4 format is defined in the international standard ISO 216. The Polish standard of paper sheets PN-EN ISO 216:2009 is in accordance with the international standard ISO 216. The most and most popular known format of this kind is A4.
In format A, the ratio of the shorter side to the longer is always like 1 to √2 (i.e. like the side of the square to its diagonal), albeit rounded to full Millimeters . The described ratio of the length of the sides causes that after folding the sheet in half sides to each other, two sheets are obtained, with the same aspect ratio of the sides, like the output sheet. A0 sizes are so selected so that its area is 1 m². Subsequent formats in this series are created by dividing sheets into half of their long side. Hence the format A1 is half of A0, A2 half of the A1 etc., but always rounded to the nearest millimetre.

How I mentioned the A4 format is the most popular format Print Paper used in the world. It is the native editing format for all packages office buildings such as Libre Office, OpenOffice or MS Office. These packages they also allow you to print up to A4 dimension in PDF file format without no setting changes. Most of the home printers and printers sold office printers allows you to print in A4 paper size. Also scanners and most scanning devices allow scanning up to A4 Format. The same applies to photocopiers and fax machines.
