Format A3 has been defined in the international standard ISO 216. The Polish standard of paper sheets PN-EN ISO 216:2009 is in accordance with the international standard ISO 216. The A3 format is the second most popular format of its kind after A4.
In paper format A, the ratio of the shorter side to the longer side is always like 1 to √2 (i.e. like the side of a square to its diagonal), albeit rounded to full millimetres. Such a ratio of the length of the sides results in the fact that after folding the sheet in half with the shorter sides to each other, two sheets are obtained, with the same proportion of sides as the original sheet. The sizes of the A0 format are selected so that its area is 1 m². Subsequent formats in this series are created by dividing sheets halfway down their long side. Hence, the size A1 is half of A0, A2 is half of A1, etc., but always rounded to full millimeters.

The A3 format is the second most popular paper format in the world, after the A4 format. It is one of the predefined editing formats of all office suites such as Libre Office, OpenOffice or MS Office. Office suites also allow you to print an A3 page directly to a PDF file. To print pages in this format, you need to purchase a dedicated device, as most printers print in A4 format. Scanners and scanning devices must also be dedicated to scanning this format. In the case of photocopiers, most devices support scanning and printing in both A3 and A4 formats.
The A3 format is most often used to make presentation printouts such as printing charts, tables for project documentation, technical drawings, geodetic maps containing larger elements or requiring more details. Also in the case of printing geodetic maps with a larger area of geodetic studies in the scales of 1:500, 1:1000 or 1:2000, CAD printout on A3 sheets is used.
The A3 template is further developed by the following formats: A3+ and A3++ enabling printing on printers that support A3 sheets of paper longer than the standard length defined for printing A3 pages. These are sheets of paper with a height of 297 mm and a length of more than 420 mm. The use of such of sheets gives the possibility of printing line elements, such as maps geodetic road systems or long terrain elements of plots, earth embankments, rivers with the use of fewer A3 sheets and convenient use of them to complete documentation in the A4 standard by the so-called folding. The A3 side is usually folded along the long side.
Software
ActCAD has implemented CAD print settings for this popular print format. CAD printing in A3 format is possible directly from the
program to the printing device, or through any
PDF printer installed on the operating system, for example ActCAD PDF Printer whether Bullzip PDF Printer to a PDF file.
