BIM Formats | IFC format - ifc files

What is an IFC file?

IFC files (Industry Foundation Classes) are one of the key standards for BIM data exchange, enabling the free flow of information between BIM software from different manufacturers and CAD software. Compared to other closed formats, such as RVT (Autodesk Revit), PLN (ArchiCAD), VWX (Vectorworks), SKP (SketchUp) or DGN (Microstation), the IFC format is an open BIM file format, independent of a specific manufacturer or consortium.

With this format, CAD users can extend its functionality with BIM software features and seamlessly migrate to BIM solutions, which are increasingly used in design. The IFC format also enables the exchange of data between different BIM programs.

IFC files are widely used in construction and engineering design as a standard format for BIM data exchange. Thanks to its openness and versatility, the IFC format allows for collaboration between different BIM and CAD software, allowing for better integration between designers, contractors, engineers, and building owners.

One example of the use of IFC files is their use to create spatial visualization of buildings and infrastructure. These visualizations allow for easier understanding and visualization of architectural designs, as well as more accurate planning and analysis of space. These visualisations can also be used in the process of communication with investors and decision-makers.

Another example of the use of IFC files is their use to analyze the energy performance of buildings. With the help of IFC files, BIM models can be easily transferred between different energy analysis software, which allows for a thorough examination of the energy efficiency of the designed building. This can optimize the design and achieve better energy performance, which can help to reduce operating costs and reduce environmental impact.

Other uses of IFC files include:

  • Analysis of air and heat flow in buildings;
  • Project and documentation management;
  • Building Lifecycle Management (BIM);
  • Designing urban infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and tunnels;
  • Design of HVAC, sanitary and electrical systems in buildings.

ActCAD is a CAD software that allows you to open, view, modify and create drawings and project documentation in both 2D and 3D. This software uses leading ODA (Open Design Alliance) solutions to handle IFC files. ODA libraries are regularly updated with new features implemented in subsequent IFC format standards, which allows you to read IFC files and import them into DWG or DXF format.

In versions 2020 and 2021, ActCAD BIM software supports IFC format files, which allows you to import IFC files from BIM class software into native tj. DWG and DXF formats. This allows users to freely flow project documentation between programs from different manufacturers and to more easily integrate CAD solutions into the BIM philosophy.

In summary, the IFC format is a key standard for BIM data exchange, which enables smooth migration of CAD software users to BIM solutions and the free flow of project documentation between programs from different manufacturers. ActCAD is a CAD software that enables the handling of IFC files and the integration of CAD solutions into the BIM philosophy.

All in all, IFC files are a key element in BIM design and offer A wide range of applications in building and infrastructure design energy performance analysis, project and life cycle management Building.

ActCAD is a modern CAD software for 2D drawing and 3D modeling as well as working with BIM objects based on the latest solutions of the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium.
Intelli CAD is a CAD software engine developed by the US-based IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC), a consortium founded in 1999 and operating as a non-profit organization.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) within ITC develop modules for CAD, BIM, DGN, Mobile, UI, etc. The IntelliCAD team professionally carries out the processes of CAD BIM software development, product testing, and constantly supports and improves the quality systems and products of the ITC Consortium members. ITC members work in different locations around the world and contribute to the development of technology in a cooperative way. The aim of this joint initiative is to provide technological support for software and service development to all ITC members worldwide. ActCAD 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 products are based on the successive development versions of the IntelliCAD engine, such as 6.6, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.2a, 10, 10.0a, and 10.1, 10.1a, 11, 11.1, 12, 12.1, and IntelliCAD 13
The latest version of ActCAD usually uses the latest IntelliCAD ITC engine.
