What is a DXF file?
DXF is an abbreviation for Drawing Exchange Format or Drawing Interchange Format. The AutoCAD DXF format is a format for CAD data exchange. Autodesk developed the DXF format to allow data to interact between AutoCAD and other engineering programs, i.e. CAD, programs graphic design or surveying programs. Format DXF file was first introduced in 1982. The main objective of the DXF format was to be able to export data from the closed native AutoCAD DWG format for other applications Engineering. Despite that this format was an open format, for many years the process of importing DXF files was very difficult due to the unavailability of the full format specification. Currently, format specifications are available in PDF format, but this format is rarely used in AutoCAD applications.
