What is a DWT file?

A DWT file is a template that contains predefined graphical components or basic drawings that are used to create more complex 2D or 3D drawings in AutoCAD. A DWT file is a template file that is used as a starter to create drawings that can be saved as DWG files. You can create a .dwt file from an existing DWG drawing or drawing template.

The file is saved in the same format as DWG files; the only difference is that AutoCAD treats it as a template based on the DWT file name extension.

How to Open DWT Files in ActCAD

To create a new DWT file in ActCAD, you can use the Wizard that runs when you create a new drawing.

You can choose presets, preset templates, manual template configuration, or pick an existing drawing.

In the first case, ActCAD will ask you for the unit settings.

In the second case, we can indicate one of the existing templates to copy and modify.

In the third case, we create a template from scratch.

If you are creating a template based on an existing .dwg file, you must first create the desired settings in the drawing file as a template. To do this, open the DWG file you want to convert into a ready-made template.

Delete any objects in the drawing that you do not want to keep.

Save the file with the appropriate name as a "Drawing Template". DWT files are saved in the currently defined dwg drawing file format.

Run any ActCAD application
From the menu, select File > Open
Search for the DWT file you want to open
Select DWT file or files with dgn extension
You can view, edit, and save the results of your work to a file Design
You can choose any other CAD file format supported by ActCAD, e.g. DXF, DWG, DGN, DWS, DWF, STEP, STL, IGES, DSF to save the results of your work!!
